Rajoy responds to the question «Does Spain need a bailout?»

Madrid (EFECOM) – The President of the Government, Mariano Rajoy, on Wednesday defended his decision not to have asked for a financial rescue from the EU, which in his opinion has already been recognized as «a great success», in view of economic data such as the drop in the risk premium or the good results in debt auctions.

Rajoy has made this reflection during his speech before the popular parliamentary group in Congress, after recalling how last summer there were all kinds of opinions or editorials in the media urging the Government to ask for it.

«The Government knows what it does and before taking a decision, it thinks about it», stressed the head of the Executive, who was received by the deputies of his party with a long ovation that was repeated at the end of the meeting.Rajoy thanked his parliamentarians for the support they have given the Government in difficult times and before decisions that it has had to adopt that he has recognized that they are not at all popular. But he stressed that there was no choice but to adopt them because of the socialist inheritance: «it is very difficult to receive something worse,» he said.

Catalan businessmen have asked him to make decisions if he wants to avoid excessive instability. The Galician has pledged to «learn from mistakes». «We have things to change and we will do it, but not in economic policy, it would be a monumental mistake,» he hastened to qualify, making it clear that «it would be nonsense» not to fulfill the commitments to reduce the deficit with the European Union.

During his speech at the closing ceremony, he called on Mas not to finally call these elections in September. «When the call for elections is announced it makes things very difficult. Holding elections next September is a mistake, because they are not due».

In his opinion, «now it is time to consolidate the economic recovery and these elections do not help the recovery at all». The president of the Círculo, Antón Costas, asked Rajoy to take into consideration his proposal to reform the autonomic financing system as a solution to the Catalan question. The president replied that it had not been possible in this legislature «simply because there was no money», but that he will deal with it in the next one. His immobile position left a bad taste in the mouths of several businessmen present, who preferred to remain anonymous. The notary Mario Romeo, president of the Tercera Vía Association, did consider Rajoy’s intervention «positive». «He did not specify, but he did show willingness to dialogue, which we consider important at this time».

Rajoy: «Spain is not going to be rescued».

In fact, each regional baron has appointed a person of his own to this team. In the same interview on the Cope channel alluded to earlier, Feijóo lashed out against the management of Casado and his team, with Teodoro García Egea at the head, in the «territories» of the PP.

The new PP has arrived. And it is very similar to the old PP. To the point that in the first appearance before the media of Gamarra and González Pons after being appointed in their new responsibilities, the Valencian leader attacked the questions about the payments received by Ayuso’s brother from a company that contracted with the Government of Madrid: «When you trust in the honorability of someone there is no need for him to give explanations».
